2026 Community Mural

Project

The 2026 Community Mural is a public engagement project intended to involve artists and community members in together designing and producing the next mural in Vinton.  A Call to Artists was issued, inviting designs from local artists.  A design was selected by the project committee, and then drawn out on four 4x8 ACM panels.  The community is now being invited to come in and paint the panels, with support from the lead artists.  The project is consistent with the Guild's mission to cultivate an appreciation for the arts in the community and engage community members at various skills levels in creating art works of all kinds.   Further information on the selected mural is shown below.

Invitation to Participate

All community members ages 14 and over are invited to help paint the 2026 Community Mural!  Sign up with a friend and enjoy an evening out, or sign yourself up for multiple sessions, as your interests and schedule permit.  No particular skill level is required -you can work on whichever design elements you are most comfortable with.

Four painting sessions, with 2 additional times, have been scheduled in June.  Registration is required.  Participants may sign up for one or all of the sessions, keeping in mind the mural may be done before the backup dates are needed.  There are a limited number of spots, which will no doubt fill up fast, so be sure to sign up asap!  If you find the session(s) you want are full, feel free to let us know of your interest (email vintonartguild@gmail.com) and we'll make sure you have the opportunity to help out with the next project.

Design

In keeping with the theme, a design for the new mural was selected which depicts Riverside Park, Past and Present.  Based on historical information, including news articles, the left half of the mural imagines how the area may have looked around 1911, when "Warner Park" was established (named after the gentleman who sold the land to the city).  Baseball, picnics, foot races, and other activities were among those listed in the news announcing the annual picnic around that time.  The right half of the mural includes some of the current playground equipment at Riverside Park, along with a few activities one might see there today.  The mural was designed by Anita Gordon and Sally Meyne.  The final mural will look similar to the sketches shown above.

Theme

The theme for the new Community Mural is “Vinton Community Life – Past and Present.  Local artists were invited to submit designs that "depict or represent images from small town life in our community, including iconic and/or historical activities or locations. We hope the mural will inspire us to consider what it means to be a community, and what makes Vinton a special place to live.”
