Gerry Tomkins

I began taking art classes in high school and majored in art in college. I enjoy oil painting and my subjects have been portraits, landscapes and still lifes in a representational style. Recently I have been experimenting with abstract art in oil pastels, ink and watercolor. I am enjoying the texture, the effects and the color possibilities. The playfulness of doing abstract art encourages creativity. And it is fun. I still enjoy doing representational art and will continue that art as well.

KENYAN QUEEN.jpg

AFRICAN QUEEN.
Oil
I wanted to do a painting with bright colors. I combined the face with other photos of a colorful headdress. I         imitated the design and colors of the headdress for her wrap. I added jewelry. Most colors were straight from the paint tube.

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.
This is oil paint on canvas with some oil pastels as the final layer. I added sand to the paint to get  more texture so the oil pastels would go on as "broken color" to let the under layer of colors show through.
